Before he became Israel, he was known as Yaakov (יַעֲקֹב). The name means "heel-catcher" or "supplanter".
Jacob came into this world grabbing his twin brother Esau's heel. From day one, his life was a fight.
He fought for blessing. He fought for love. He fought to survive.
Sound familiar?
If you're grinding, striving, or fighting for everything right now... you know the Yaakov life.
One night, alone by the Jabbok River, Jacob wrestled. Not with a man, but with God (Genesis 32:22-28).
Bruised. Limping. Exhausted. He refused to let go until he was blessed.
Israel means "He who strives with God and prevails". God didn't erase Jacob. He renamed him. The limp remained as a reminder that He uses our scars.
There's one more name: Yeshurun (יְשֻׁרוּן) — "The Upright One".
It's not a name earned by perfection. It's a name spoken in love.
Yaakov = who you were in the fight
Israel = who you're becoming as you wrestle with God
Yeshurun = who God says you already are in His love
If you're crawling, He's calling you His. If you're fighting, He's blessing you. If you're limping, He's leading you.
